Hipersecreción ovárica de andrógenos

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento depende del diagnóstico subyacente que ocasiona el aumento en la producción de andrógenos. A los pacientes que presenten hirsutismo se les pueden administrar medicamentos para reducir la producción de vello o para regular los ciclos menstruales. En algunos casos, es posible que se necesite una cirugía para extirpar un tumor ovárico o suprarrenal.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El éxito del tratamiento depende de la causa de la excesiva producción de andrógenos, que en el caso de un tumor ovárico, se puede corregir con la extirpación quirúrgica de dicho tumor. La mayoría de los tumores son benignos y no recurren después de la extirpación quirúrgica.
