Apoplejía hipofisaria
Es la muerte de un área tisular en la hipófisis, una pequeña glándula unida al hipotálamo (parte del cerebro) que produce muchas de las hormonas que controlan los procesos esenciales del organismo.
El infarto de la hipófisis es causado más comúnmente por un sangrado debido a un tumor no canceroso de la hipófisis. Cuando este sangrado se presenta en una mujer durante o inmediatamente después del parto, se denomina síndrome de Sheehan.
