Gigantismo
SÃntomas:
- Crecimiento excesivo durante la niñez
- Protuberancia frontal y mandÃbula prominente
- Engrosamiento de las caracterÃsticas faciales
- Manos y pies desproporcionadamente largos con dedos gruesos
- Aumento de la transpiración
- Debilidad
- Secreción de leche de las mamas 1
- Menstruaciones irregulares
- Dolor de cabeza
- Retardo en el inicio de la pubertad
- Visión doble o dificultad con la visión periférica
Signos y exámenes:
- Aumento en los niveles del factor-I (IGF-I) de crecimineto del tipo de la insulina
- Incapacidad para suprimir los niveles de GH sérica después de la prueba de provocación de glucosa oral (máximo 75g)
- TC o IRM de la cabeza que muestra el tumor pituitario
- Niveles altos de prolactina
Otros niveles hormonales pueden estar bajos debido al daño a la pituitaria, incluyendo hormona tiroidea, testosterona (hombres), estradiol (mujeres) o cortisol.
