SÃntomas:
El principal sÃntoma es la inflamación de la glándula tiroides, en un tamaño que puede ir desde un solo nódulo pequeño hasta una tumoración grande en el cuello.
La tiroides inflamada puede ejercer presión sobre la tráquea y el esófago, lo cual puede llevar a:
- Dificultad respiratoria
- Tos
- Dificultad para deglutir
- Sibilancias
Puede haber hinchazón de las venas del cuello y mareos cuando se levantan los brazos por encima de la cabeza.
Signos y exámenes:
El médico palpará el cuello a medida que la persona traga y podrá sentir la hinchazón en el área.
Los exámenes que se pueden llevar a cabo abarcan:
- Hormona estimulante de la tiroides (HET)
- Tiroxina (T4) libre
- Captación y gammagrafÃa de la tiroides
- EcografÃa de la tiroides y, en caso de haber nódulos, se debe hacer una biopsia para verificar si hay cáncer de tiroides.
