Prevención:

Los trastornos que pueden causar hipercaliemia se deben tratar rápidamente y controlar el potasio sérico en personas con estas condiciones.

La función renal debe evaluarse antes y durante la administración de suplementos de potasio y éstos no se deben suministrar, a menos que el gasto urinario y la función renal sean adecuados.
