Adenoma paratiroideo - Información general

Definición:

Son tumores no cancerosos (benignos) de las glándulas paratiroides, que están ubicadas en el cuello.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Las glándulas paratiroides ayudan a controlar el metabolismo del calcio en el cuerpo. Los adenomas paratiroideos son la causa más común de hiperparatiroidismo que lleva a niveles elevados de calcio en la sangre (hipercalciemia).

Estos adenomas generalmente son causados por un problema con los genes.

El mayor riesgo lo tienen las mujeres de más de 60 años e igualmente están en riesgo las personas que hayan tenido exposición a la radiación en la cabeza y el cuello.
