Hipotiroidismo congénito

SÃntomas:
La mayorÃa de los bebés afectados presentan pocos o ningún sÃntoma, debido a que únicamente tienen una leve deficiencia de la hormona tiroidea. Sin embargo, los bebés muy afectados por el hipotiroidismo a menudo suelen tener una apariencia caracterÃstica cuyos sÃntomas pueden ser:
- Cara de apariencia hinchada
- Mirada triste
- Lengua larga que sobresale de la boca
Esta apariencia generalmente se desarrolla a medida que progresa la enfermedad. El niño también puede presentar:
- Cabello seco y frágil
- Baja implantación del cabello
- Ictericia
- Mala alimentación
- Episodios de asfixia
- Falta de tono muscular (bebé hipotónico )
- Estreñimiento
- Somnolencia
- Lentitud
- Estatura baja
Signos y exámenes:
Un examen fÃsico puede revelar:
- Huesos del cráneo ampliamente separados
- Fontanelas (puntos blandos en el cráneo) anormalmente grandes
- Insuficiencia en el crecimiento
- Brazos y piernas cortas
- Manos anchas con dedos cortos
- Mixedema
- HipotonÃa
- Voz o llanto ronco
Los exámenes abarcan:
- RadiografÃa de los huesos largos
- Niveles de T4 (tiroxina) libre
- Nivel de TSH en suero
- Nivel de TBG en suero
- GammagrafÃa de la tiroides
