Síndrome de Morquio - Treatment

Tratamiento:

No hay un tratamiento específico para el síndrome de Morquio. Los investigadores actualmente están probando un posible tratamiento que involucra la sustitución enzimática.

Los síntomas se tratan a medida que aparecen. Una artrodesis vertebral puede prevenir la lesión permanente de la médula espinal en personas cuyos huesos cervicales estén subdesarrollados.

Pronóstico:

La función cognitiva (pensamiento) generalmente es normal en pacientes con el síndrome de Morquio.

Los problemas óseos pueden llevar a que se presenten complicaciones considerables. Por ejemplo, los huesos pequeños en la parte superior del cuello pueden deslizarse y dañar la médula espinal, causando parálisis. De ser posible, se debe realizar una cirugía para corregir tales problemas.

Las complicaciones del corazón (cardíacas) pueden llevar a la muerte.

Posibles complicaciones:

  • Problemas respiratorios
  • Insuficiencia cardíaca
  • Daño a la médula espinal y posible parálisis
  • Problemas de visión
  • Problemas al caminar relacionados con la curvatura anormal de la columna y otros problemas óseos
