Tumor hipotalámico - Symptom

Síntomas:

Estos tumores pueden causar diversos síntomas:

Tales síntomas se ven con mayor frecuencia en niños cuyos tumores afectan la porción anterior (frontal) del hipotálamo.

Algunos tumores pueden causar pérdida de la visión. Si los tumores bloquean el flujo del líquido cefalorraquídeo, se puede presentar dolores de cabeza y somnolencia a causa de la hidrocefalia (acumulación de líquido en el cerebro).

Algunos pacientes pueden tener convulsiones como resultado de los tumores cerebrales. Otros pacientes pueden desarrollar pubertad precoz y niveles de prolactina elevados a raíz de un cambio en el funcionamiento de la hipófisis.

Signos y exámenes:

El médico puede identificar un desarrollo anormal durante un chequeo regular. Éste realiza un examen neurológico, incluyendo la evaluación de la función visual. Asimismo, se pueden llevar a cabo exámenes de sangre para verificar los desequilibrios hormonales.

Dependiendo de los resultados de la evaluación y de los exámenes de sangre, una tomografía computarizada o una resonancia magnética pueden determinar la presencia de tumores hipotalámicos.

El examen del campo visual puede brindar más información acerca de qué tan gravemente está afectada la visión y puede ayudar a determinar si la afección está mejorando o empeorando.
