Las personas con diabetes deben acudir una vez al año a un oftalmólogo para que les practiquen una dilatación ocular, que le permite al médico observar la retina. Los exámenes oculares frecuentes y la cirugÃa con láser, de ser posible, pueden prevenir la ceguera en la mayorÃa de los casos.
