La macroamilasemia ocasiona una lectura de niveles de amilasa en sangre alta y se puede confundir con la pancreatitis aguda , que también ocasiona niveles altos de amilasa en la sangre.
La macroamilasemia se puede diagnosticar midiendo los niveles de amilasa en la orina, los cuales serÃan bajos, en contraste con la pancreatitis aguda, en la cual los niveles de amilasa en la orina serán altos.
