Síndrome de McCune-Albright - Tratamiento

Tratamiento:

No hay un tratamiento específico para el síndrome de McCune-Albright; sin embargo, las drogas que inhiben la producción de estrógeno, como la testolactona, se han ensayado con cierto éxito.

Las anomalías suprarrenales (como el síndrome de Cushing) pueden tratarse quirúrgicamente para extirpar las glándulas suprarrenales. El gigantismo y el adenoma hipofisario requieren tratamiento con inhibidores hormonales o cirugía.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La longevidad es relativamente normal.

Complicaciones:

Episodios repetitivos de huesos fracturados
Deformaciones y problemas estéticos producto de las anomalías óseas
Ceguera
Sordera
Tumores
Pubertad prematura
Osteítis fibroquística

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si el niño desarrolla evidencias de una pubertad prematura (antes de la edad esperada) o presenta otros síntomas que puedan sugerir la presencia del síndrome de McCune-Albright. Igualmente, se puede recomendar asesoría y pruebas genéticas si se diagnostica la enfermedad.
