Pericondritis - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento consiste en la administración de antibióticos, ya sea en forma oral o directamente en el torrente sanguíneo a través de una vía intravenosa. Si hay acumulación de pus, entonces puede ser necesario realizar una cirugía para drenarlo y para extirpar cualquier tipo de piel o de cartílago que haya muerto.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El diagnóstico depende de la prontitud con la cual se diagnostique y se trate la infección. Si se toman antibióticos desde un comienzo, se espera la recuperación completa. En casos más avanzados, cuando la infección compromete el cartílago del oído (condritis), es posible que parte del oído muera y que sea necesario extirparla quirúrgicamente. De ser así, se puede requerir cirugía para restaurar el oído a su forma normal.

Complicaciones:

Si no se trata a tiempo, la infección se puede diseminar al cartílago del oído, lo cual requeriría la extirpación de la parte dañada y una posible cirugía cosmética para restaurarla a su forma normal.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Consulte con el médico si sufre algún traumatismo en el oído (un rasguño, un golpe o una perforación) y desarrolla luego dolor y enrojecimiento en la parte rígida de la oreja. Es posible que sea necesario tomar antibióticos.
