Estenosis uretral - Overview

Definición:

Es un estrechamiento anormal del conducto que lleva la orina fuera del cuerpo desde la vejiga (uretra).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La estenosis uretral puede ser causada por inflamación o tejido cicatricial a raíz de una cirugía, enfermedad o lesión. También puede ser causada por la presión de un tumor en crecimiento cerca de la uretra, aunque esto es raro.

Otros riesgos abarcan:

  • Antecedentes de enfermedad de transmisión sexual (ETS)
  • Cualquier instrumento que se inserte en la uretra, como un catéter o un cistoscopio
  • Hiperplasia prostática benigna (HPB)
  • Lesión o traumatismo en el área pélvica
  • Episodios repetitivos de uretritis

Las estenosis que se presentan al nacer (congénitas), al igual que las estenosis en las mujeres, son poco comunes.
