Estrechez uretral

Definición:

Es un estrechamiento anormal de la uretra, el conducto por el cual sale la orina del cuerpo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La estrechez uretral puede ser causada por inflamación o por el tejido cicatricial resultante de una cirugía, enfermedad o lesión. También puede ser causada por la presión externa originada por un tumor en crecimiento cerca de la uretra, aunque esta situación es rara.

Los hombres con antecedentes de enfermedad de transmisión sexual, episodios repetitivos de uretritis , o hiperplasia prostática benigna (HPB) presentan un mayor riesgo. También existe un mayor riesgo de estenosis uretral después de una lesión o traumatismo en la región pélvica. Así mismo, cualquier instrumento que se inserte en la uretra, como un catéter o un cistoscopio, aumenta igualmente la posibilidad de sufrir esta afección.

Las estenosis pediátricas congénitas (presente al nacer) son poco comunes, como lo son las estenosis verdaderas en las mujeres.
