Síntomas:

Los síntomas tanto en la EICH aguda como crónica van de leves a severos.

Los síntomas agudos y comunes abarcan:

• Dolor o cólicos abdominales
• Diarrea
• Fiebre
• Ictericia
• Erupción cutánea
• Vómitos
• Pérdida de peso

Los síntomas crónicos pueden abarcar:

• Resequedad en ojos y boca
• Pérdida del cabello
• Hepatitis
• Trastornos pulmonares y del tubo digestivo

Tanto en los síntomas crónicos como en los agudos el paciente es muy vulnerable a las infecciones.

Signos y exámenes:

Los exámenes que se realizan dependen generalmente de los síntomas, pero pueden abarcar:

• Endoscopia gastrointestinal con o sin una biopsia
• Pruebas de la función hepática (se incrementan los niveles de AST, ALP y bilirrubina)
• Biopsia del hígado (si el paciente sólo tiene problemas hepáticos)
• Radiografía de los pulmones
• Biopsia de piel
