Hipertermia maligna

Definición:

Es una enfermedad hereditaria que ocasiona una rápida elevación de la temperatura corporal ( fiebre ) y contracciones musculares intensas cuando la persona afectada recibe anestesia general.

Esta afección no es lo mismo que hipertermia debido a emergencias médicas, tales como insolación .

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La hipertermia maligna es un rasgo autosómico dominante, lo que quiere decir que sólo se requiere un padre portador de la enfermedad para que el hijo la herede, y puede estar asociada con enfermedades musculares como miopatía de multi y minicuerpos centrales y miopatía de cuerpos centrales.

Una forma de hipertermia maligna es causada por un defecto en el gen receptor de rianodina (RYR1).
