Herpes simple

Definición:

Es una infección que afecta principalmente la boca o el área genital.

Existen dos cepas diferentes del virus del herpes simple:

Una infección de un dedo de la mano, llamada panadizo herpético, es otra forma de herpes que, por lo general, afecta a los médicos que están expuestos a la saliva durante los procedimientos. Algunas veces, los niños también pueden adquirir la enfermedad.

El virus del herpes puede infectar al feto y causarle anomalías congénitas. Una mujer que esté infectada con herpes puede trasmitirle el virus a su bebé durante el parto vaginal, especialmente si la madre tiene una infección activa en el momento de dar a luz.

Es posible que el virus se transmita incluso cuando no hay síntomas o úlceras visibles.
