Síntomas:
- Ampollas o úlceras, con mayor frecuencia en la boca, los labios, las encías o los genitales
- Inflamación de los ganglios linfáticos en el cuello o en la ingle (por lo general, sólo en el momento de la infección inicial)
- Herpes febril
- Fiebre, especialmente durante el primer episodio
- Lesiones genitales: primero puede haber una sensación de ardor u hormigueo
- Úlceras bucales
Pruebas y exámenes:
Muchas veces, los médicos pueden deducir si la persona tiene una infección por herpes simple con solo mirar las lesiones; sin embargo, se pueden ordenar algunos exámenes para confirmar el diagnóstico. Estos exámenes abarcan:
- Examen de sangre para anticuerpos de VHS (serología)
- Examen de anticuerpos fluorescentes directos (AFD) de células tomadas de una lesión
