Tratamiento:

Se debe identificar y tratar la causa oportunamente. El tratamiento típico implica una cirugía y el uso de antibióticos.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los pacientes generalmente se recuperan bien con tratamiento. Sin tratamiento, el pronóstico suele ser desalentador; sin embargo, en algunos casos, los pacientes no se recuperan bien aun con tratamiento oportuno y adecuado.

Complicaciones:

La peritonitis puede ser potencialmente mortal y causar muchas complicaciones diferentes, dependiendo del tipo específico de la enfermedad.
