Citomegalovirus congénito - Treatment

Tratamiento:

No hay un tratamiento específico para el CMV congénito. Los tratamientos, como la fisioterapia y educación apropiada para niños con retardo psicomotor, se concentran en problemas específicos.

El tratamiento experimental con el medicamento ganciclovir puede reducir la pérdida auditiva posteriormente en la vida del niño.

Pronóstico:

Hasta el 90% de los bebés que tienen síntomas de su infección al nacer presenta anomalías neurológicas posteriormente en la vida. Sólo alrededor del 5 al 10% de los bebés asintomáticos tendrá estos problemas.

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

Procure que le hagan una evaluación de inmediato al bebé si éste no fue examinado por un médico poco después de nacer y usted sospecha que el tamaño de la cabeza es pequeño o nota otros síntomas de CMV congénito.

Si su bebé tiene CMV congénito, es importante seguir las recomendaciones del médico para los controles del niño sano. De esta manera, cualquier problema de crecimiento y desarrollo se puede identificar a tiempo y tratarse de manera oportuna.
