Tratamiento:

Se suministran antibióticos intravenosos para tratar los estafilococos con el fin de ayudar a combatir la infección. Es importante suministrar líquidos intravenosos (IV) para prevenir la deshidratación, debido a que se pierde mucho líquido a través de la piel abierta.

El uso de compresas húmedas en la piel puede brindar alivio. Se puede aplicar un emoliente con el fin de mantener la piel húmeda. La cicatrización comienza aproximadamente en 10 días después del tratamiento.

Pronóstico:

El pronóstico es, por lo general, excelente y se espera una recuperación total.

Posibles complicaciones:

Problemas con la regulación de líquidos ocasionando la deshidratación o el desequilibrio electrolítico
Control deficiente de la temperatura (en bebés)
Infección grave del torrente sanguíneo (septicemia)
Propagación a una infección cutánea más profunda (celulitis)
