Toxemia; Bacteriemia con sepsis
La septicemia puede comenzar con picos febriles, escalofríos, respiración acelerada y frecuencia cardíaca rápida. La persona igualmente luce muy enferma.
Los síntomas avanzan rápidamente hacia un shock con fiebre o disminución en la temperatura corporal (hipotermia), descenso de la presión arterial, confusión u otros cambios en el estado mental y problemas en la coagulación de la sangre que llevan a un tipo específico de manchas rojas en la piel (petequias y equimosis).
Puede haber disminución o ausencia del gasto urinario.
