Septicemia - Treatment

Tratamiento:

La septicemia es una enfermedad grave que requiere hospitalización. A usted lo pueden ingresar a una unidad de cuidados intensivos (UCI).

Se suministran líquidos por vía intravenosa (IV) para mantener la presión arterial e igualmente se administra oxígeno.

Se utilizan antibióticos para tratar la infección.

Se puede administrar plasma y otros hemoderivados para corregir cualquier tipo de anomalías en la coagulación.

Pronóstico:

El pronóstico depende del organismo involucrado y de la rapidez con la cual el paciente sea hospitalizado y se inicie el tratamiento. La tasa de mortalidad es alta, más del 50% para algunos organismos.

Posibles complicaciones:

La septicemia puede conducir rápidamente al síndrome de dificultad respiratoria del adulto (SDRA), shock séptico y a la muerte.

La septicemia asociada con meningococos puede provocar shock o insuficiencia suprarrenal ( síndrome de Waterhouse-Friderichsen).

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

La septicemia no es muy común pero es devastadora y su detección oportuna puede impedir su progreso hasta shock.

Busque atención inmediata si:

Una persona tiene fiebre, escalofríos con temblor y luce muy enferma
Cualquier persona que haya estado enferma presenta cambios en su estado mental
Hay signos de sangrado dentro de la piel

Llame al médico si las vacunas de su hijo no están al día.
