Toxoplasmosis congénita
Tratamiento:
La infección en la madre embarazada puede ser tratada con espiramicina.
La infección fetal (diagnosticada durante el embarazo) se puede tratar con pirimetamina y sulfadiazina.
El tratamiento de los niños con toxoplasmosis congénita incluye tÃpicamente pirimetamina, sulfadiazina y leucovorina durante un año. En algunas ocasiones, a los bebes se les suministran esteroides también si su visión está amenazada o si el nivel de proteÃnas en el lÃquido cefalorraquÃdeo es alto.
Expectativas (pronóstico):
Los resultados dependen de la severidad de la toxoplasmosis congénita.
Complicaciones:
- Ceguera o incapacidad visual severa
- Retardo mental severo
- Otras manifestaciones neurológicas
Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:
Se debe buscar asistencia médica si la persona esta embarazada y cree que está en riesgo de desarrollar toxoplasmosis (por ejemplo, si tiene un gato y es la persona que limpia la caja de desechos).
Se debe acudir al médico si la persona está embarazada y no ha recibido cuidados prenatales.
