El uso de prácticas sexuales más seguras, puede ayudar a la madre a prevenir el herpes genital .
Las personas con aftas (herpes labial) deben evitar el contacto con recién nacidos. Si la persona con aftas es una niñera, debe utilizar una máscara de cirugÃa y lavarse minuciosamente las manos antes del contacto con el bebé para prevenir la transmisión posparto del virus.
Las madres que no están infectadas con herpes no pueden transmitir el virus del herpes al feto durante el parto. Las madres deben consultar con su médico la mejor manera de minimizar el riesgo de transmitir el herpes al bebé.
