Fiebre del dengue - Overview

Fiebre de O´nyon-nyong; Fiebre quebrantahuesos; Enfermedad similar al dengue

Definición:

Es una enfermedad viral transmitida por mosquitos.

Ver también fiebre del dengue hemorrágico.

Causas:

La fiebre del dengue es causada por uno de cuatro virus diferentes pero emparentados. Se transmite por la picadura de mosquitos, entre los cuales el más común es el Aedes aegypti, que se encuentra en las regiones tropicales y subtropicales. Esto incluye partes de:

  • El archipiélago de Indonesia en la parte noreste de Australia
  • Centro y Suramérica
  • El sudeste asiático
  • África subsahariana

La fiebre del dengue se observa más en personas que viajan por el mundo.

La fiebre del dengue no se debe confundir con la fiebre del dengue hemorrágico, la cual es una enfermedad aparte, causada por el mismo tipo de virus pero que tiene síntomas mucho más graves.
