Listeriosis - Symptom

Síntomas:

En los bebés, los síntomas de listeriosis se pueden observar en los primeros días de vida y pueden abarcar:

Inapetencia
Letargia
Ictericia
Vómitos
Dificultad respiratoria (generalmente neumonía)
Shock
Salpullido
Aumento en la presión intracraneal (debido a meningitis) que puede causar separación de las suturas

La aparición tardía de la infección en bebés (síntomas que aparecen a la edad de 5 años o más) y la infección en niños se observa con frecuencia como una meningitis.

En los adultos, la enfermedad puede tomar muchas formas dependiendo del órgano o sistemas de órganos infectados y puede presentarse como una meningitis, neumonía, septicemia y endocarditis o en formas más leves como abscesos, lesión de piel y conjuntivitis.

Si una mujer embarazada resulta infectada, esto puede llevar a:

Mortinato o muerte fetal
Muerte de un recién nacido a las pocas horas de nacer

Pruebas y exámenes:

Se pueden hacer exámenes de laboratorio para detectar la bacteria en el líquido amniótico, la sangre, las heces y la orina. Igualmente, se puede realizar un cultivo de LCR.

Nota: no hay ninguna manera, sin realizar pruebas, de saber si la meningitis se debe a listeria u otra causa.
