Hantavirus - Treatment

Síndrome pulmonar por hantavirus (virus hanta); Fiebre hemorrágica con síndrome renal

Tratamiento:

Las personas con hantavirus son hospitalizadas, con frecuencia en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI).

Los tratamientos abarcarán:

  • Oxígeno.
  • Tubo de respiración o un respirador en casos graves.
  • Un medicamento llamado ribavirina para tratar problemas relacionados con el riñón y reducir el riesgo de muerte.

No existe un tratamiento eficaz para la infección por hantavirus que compromete los pulmones.

Pronóstico:

El hantavirus es una infección seria que empeora rápidamente. Se puede presentar insuficiencia pulmonar que puede llevar a la muerte. Incluso con tratamiento intensivo, más de la mitad de las personas que tienen esta enfermedad en los pulmones muere.

Posibles complicaciones:

Las complicaciones del hantavirus pueden abarcar:

  • Insuficiencia renal
  • Insuficiencia cardiorrespiratoria

Estas complicaciones pueden llevar a la muerte.

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

Consulte con el médico si presenta síntomas seudogripales después de haber estado expuesto a la orina o a los excrementos (heces) de ratones, al igual que al polvo que pueda haber sido contaminado con las heces de estos animales.
