Quiste branquiógeno

Definición:

Es una masa (tumoración) que se presenta en el cuello o justo por debajo de la clavícula y es un tipo de defecto congénito.

Seno o fístula de la hendidura branquial

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Los quistes branquiógenos se forman durante el desarrollo del embrión , cuando los tejidos en el área del cuello y la clavícula (hendidura branquial) no logran desarrollarse normalmente.

El defecto congénito puede aparecer como espacios abiertos llamados senos de la hendidura branquial, los cuales se pueden desarrollar en uno o en ambos lados del cuello. Un quiste branquiógeno se puede formar a partir del líquido que drena de un seno y tanto el quiste como el seno pueden resultar infectados.
