Tratamiento:

La mayoría de los tumores de la fosa posterior se extirpan quirúrgicamente, incluso si no son cancerosos. Existe espacio limitado en el área del cerebro y el tumor puede ejercer presión sobre estructuras delicadas si crece.

Ocasionalmente, también se utiliza radioterapia posoperatoria, dependiendo del tamaño y del tipo de tumor.

Grupos de apoyo:

El estrés causado por la enfermedad a menudo se puede aliviar con la vinculación a un grupo de apoyo, cuyos miembros comparten problemas y experiencias comunes.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico depende de la prontitud con la que se detecte el tumor. La obstrucción completa del flujo del líquido cefalorraquídeo ocasiona hernia y muerte, pero si los tumores se detectan antes de que esto suceda, la cirugía está asociada con una tasa favorable de supervivencia a largo plazo.

Hernia
Hidrocefalia
Aumento de la presión intracraneal
