Bruxismo - Overview

Apretar y rechinar los dientes

Definición:

Es cuando una persona aprieta los dientes (sujeta fuertemente los dientes superiores e inferiores) o los hace rechinar (deslizar o frotar los dientes de atrás hacia adelante uno sobre el otro).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Las personas pueden apretar y rechinar los dientes sin ser conscientes de ello tanto durante el día como durante la noche, aunque el bruxismo relacionado con el sueño a menudo es el mayor problema, ya que es más difícil de controlar.

Aún no se ha llegado a un acuerdo sobre la causa exacta del bruxismo, pero el estrés durante el día puede ser el desencadenante en muchas personas. Algunas personas probablemente aprietan sus dientes y nunca sienten síntomas. El hecho de si el bruxismo causa dolor y otros problemas puede ser una mezcla complicada de factores:

  • El nivel de estrés que la persona experimente
  • Cuánto tiempo y qué tan fuerte aprieta y rechina sus dientes
