Tratamiento:

El tratamiento más efectivo es un procedimiento llamado "maniobra de Epley", con el cual se puede mover el pequeño pedazo de calcio similar a hueso que está flotando dentro del oído interno. Otros ejercicios que pueden reajustar la respuesta a los movimientos de la cabeza son menos efectivos.

En ocasiones, se pueden prescribir medicamentos para aliviar las sensaciones de vértigo. Tales medicamentos pueden abarcar:

  • Antihistamínicos
  • Anticolinérgicos
  • Sedantes hipnóticos

Sin embargo, tales medicamentos a menudo no funcionan muy bien para tratar el vértigo.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El vértigo postural benigno es molesto, pero por lo general mejora con el tiempo. Esta afección puede volver a ocurrir sin dar aviso.

Complicaciones:

Los pacientes con vértigo severo pueden deshidratarse debido a los vómitos frecuentes.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Consulte con el médico si presenta un vértigo que no ha sido evaluado o si el tratamiento no es efectivo. También, consulte si presenta cualquier síntoma asociado (como debilidad, problemas con el habla, problemas visuales) que pueda indicar la presencia de una afección más grave.
