Síntomas:

Estos síntomas se pueden observar en el recién nacido :

Presente inmediatamente después del nacimiento
El labio inferior no es capaz de bajar simétricamente mientras el bebé llora (típico)
Ausencia de cualquier movimiento en el lado afectado de la cara (compromiso completo, inusual)
Es posible que el párpado no cierre en el lado afectado
La parte baja de la cara (por debajo de los ojos) parece asimétrica mientras el bebé llora

Signos y exámenes:

El examen físico es usualmente suficiente para diagnosticar esta afección y, rara vez, se necesita un estudio de conducción nerviosa con electromiografía. Este examen puede señalar la localización de la lesión nerviosa.

Las técnicas imagenológicas del cerebro no se necesitan, a menos que se sospeche otro problema, como un accidente cerebrovascular.
