Es un trastorno poco común presente al nacer. Un niño con esta afección tendrá una marca de nacimiento conocida como hemangioma plano (usualmente en la cara) y problemas neurológicos.
Se desconoce la causa de la enfermedad de Sturge-Weber. No se cree que se transmita de padres a hijos (hereditario).
