Síndrome de Waardenburg - Treatment

Síndrome de Klein-Waardenburg; Síndrome de Waardenburg-Shah

Tratamiento:

No existe tratamiento específico. Los síntomas se tratarán de la manera apropiada. A los pacientes que sufren de estreñimiento se les recetan dietas especiales y medicamentos para mantener el intestino en movimiento.

Pronóstico:

Una vez que se corrijen los problemas auditivos, la mayoría de las personas afectadas por este síndrome deberían poder llevar una vida normal. Aquellas personas con formas menos comunes de este síndrome pueden tener otras complicaciones.

Posibles complicaciones:

  • Estreñimiento tan grave que requiere la extirpación de una parte del intestino grueso
  • Hipoacusia
  • Problemas de autoestima u otros relacionados con la apariencia
  • Ligera disminución del funcionamiento intelectual (posible pero inusual)
  • Leve aumento en el riesgo de tumor muscular denominado rabdomiosarcoma

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

La asesoría genética puede ser útil si usted tiene antecedentes familiares de síndrome de Waardenburg y planea tener hijos. Igualmente, solicite una audiometría si usted o su hijo presentan sordera o disminución de la audición.
