Rabdomiosarcoma

Definición:

Es un tumor maligno (canceroso) de los tejidos blandos que se encuentra en los niños y que afecta más comúnmente las estructuras de la cabeza y el cuello, el tracto genitourinario, los brazos o las piernas.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La causa del rabdomiosarcoma se desconoce. Es un tumor muy poco común con sólo unos varios cientos de casos nuevos al año en los Estados Unidos. Algunos niños que presentan anomalías congénitas están en alto riesgo, al igual que algunas familias que presentan una mutación genética. Sin embargo, la gran mayoría de los niños con rabdomiosarcoma no presentan factores de riesgo conocidos.
