Ganglioneuroblastoma - Overview

Definición:

Es un tumor intermedio que se origina en el tejido nervioso. Un tumor intermedio es aquel que está entre benigno (de crecimiento lento y sin probabilidad de diseminarse) y maligno (de crecimiento rápido, agresivo y con la probabilidad de diseminarse).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Este raro tumor tiene una incidencia anual de menos de 5 casos por cada millón de niños.

Los tumores del sistema nervioso varían en su grado de diferenciación, el cual determina la forma como aparecen bajo el microscopio y la probabilidad de que se diseminen o no.

Los tumores benignos tienen menos probabilidad de diseminarse, mientras que los malignos son agresivos, de crecimiento rápido y a menudo se diseminan. Un ganglioneuroma es un tumor benigno, en tanto que un neuroblastoma, que se presenta en niños de más de 1 año, generalmente es maligno.

Un ganglioneuroblastoma puede estar localizado en un área o estar ampliamente diseminado, pero generalmente es menos agresivo que un neuroblastoma y su causa se desconoce.
