Ganglioneuroma

Definición:

Es un tumor del sistema nervioso periférico generalmente benigno.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Los ganglioneuromas son tumores poco comunes que se presentan en aproximadamente 1 de cada 100.000 niños y con frecuencia se originan en asociación con células nerviosas autonómicas que pueden estar en cualquier parte del cuerpo.

Estos tumores se presentan con mayor frecuencia en edades entre los 10 y los 40 años; son masas de crecimiento lento y pueden secretar neuroquímicos u hormonas. Lo más común es que sean asintomáticos y se descubran en el curso de un examen normal o durante un tratamiento para otra condición.

Aunque no se conocen factores de riesgo, algunos informes sugieren que pueden estar asociados con algunos problemas genéticos, por ejemplo, la "neurofibromatosis tipo 1".
