Síntomas:

Los síntomas de la tiña incluyen:

  • Erupción cutánea pruriginosa y circular con parches rojos, levantados y descamativos que se pueden ampollar y supurar. Estos parches a menudo tienen bordes muy definidos y con frecuencia son más rojos alrededor de la parte exterior con un tono normal de piel en el centro, lo cual puede crear una apariencia de anillo. Asimismo, la piel puede tener una apariencia clara u oscura inusual.
  • Cuando el cuero cabelludo o la barba están infectados, se presentan parches sin cabello.
  • Si se presenta infección en las uñas, éstas se decoloran, se vuelven gruesas e incluso se parten.

Signos y exámenes:

El diagnóstico médico de la tiña se basa primordialmente en la apariencia de la piel. Si se necesitan exámenes, el hongo puede aparecer fluorescente cuando se examina la piel con una luz azul (llamada lámpara de Wood) en un cuarto oscuro. Se puede realizar un diagnóstico más preciso raspando el área de la piel afectada y examinando las células bajo el microscopio.
