Definición:

Es un tipo de infección bacteriana rara pero muy grave que puede destruir los músculos, la piel y el tejido subyacente. Necrosante se refiere a algo que ocasiona necrosis o muerte tisular.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Muchos tipos diferentes de bacterias pueden causar este tipo de infección. Una forma de infección necrosante de tejidos blandos muy severa y generalmente mortal se debe al Streptococcus pyogenes, que algunas veces se denomina "bacteria necrosante".

La infección necrosante de tejidos blandos se desarrolla cuando las bacterias entran al cuerpo, por lo general a través de una herida menor o raspadura. Las bacterias comienzan a multiplicarse y a liberar sustancias dañinas (toxinas) que:

Directamente destruyen los tejidos
Interfieren con el flujo sanguíneo al tejido
Descomponen materiales en los tejidos, lo que hace que las bacterias se diseminen rápidamente, llevando a efectos generalizados, como el shock
