Insuficiencia luteínica

Definición:

Es una interrupción del ciclo menstrual normal de la mujer. El defecto ocurre cuando el cuerpo no produce suficiente hormona progesterona, lo cual ocasiona un retraso en el desarrollo del revestimiento del útero (endometrio).

La fase lútea es el tiempo que transcurre entre la ovulación y el comienzo del siguiente ciclo menstrual.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El concepto de insuficiencia luteínica es controversial y su papel en la infertilidad es incierto. Puede afectar alrededor del 3 a 4% de las mujeres fértiles y hasta el 5% de las mujeres con antecedentes de abortos espontáneos repetitivos.

Sin embargo, la insuficiencia luteínica se puede encontrar hasta en un 30% de los ciclos menstruales de mujeres que, a excepción de esto, son saludables.
