Síntomas:

Los posibles síntomas abarcan:

Lumbago o dolor abdominal sordo, agudo o de tipo cólico
Sangrado vaginal con o sin cólicos abdominales
Material tisular o en forma de coágulos que sale de la vagina

Sin embargo, aproximadamente un 20% de las mujeres embarazadas experimentan algún sangrado vaginal durante los primeros tres meses y alrededor de la mitad de este porcentaje sufre un aborto espontáneo.

Signos y exámenes:

Durante un examen pélvico, el médico puede observar adelgazamiento moderado del cuello uterino (borramiento del cuello uterino), aumento en la dilatación cervical y evidencia de ruptura de membranas.

Se pueden llevar a cabo los siguientes exámenes:

GCH (cualitativa) para confirmar el embarazo
GCH (cuantitativa) que se hace con intervalos de algunos días o semanas
CSC para determinar el grado de pérdida de sangre
Conteo de glóbulos rojos y un diferencial para descartar la posibilidad de infección
Tipo de sangre (si la persona tiene un tipo de sangre Rh-, requeriría un tratamiento con inmunoglobulina Rh-. Ver el artículo: incompatibilidad Rh)
