Mastitis; Absceso mamario; Infección del tejido mamario
Es una infección en el tejido de las mamas.
Las infecciones mamarias son, por lo general, causadas por bacterias comunes que se encuentran en la piel normal (Staphylococcus aureus). Las bacterias se introducen a través de una fisura o ruptura en la piel, generalmente en los pezones.
La infección tiene lugar en el tejido graso de la mama y ocasiona inflamación, la cual comprime a su vez los conductos galactóforos, provocando dolor e hinchazón en la mama infectada.
Las infecciones mamarias se presentan generalmente en mujeres que están lactando. Las infecciones mamarias que no tienen relación con la lactancia podrían ser una rara forma de cáncer de mama.
