Pólipos cervicales
Definición:
Son crecimientos pequeños y frágiles en forma de dedo que se originan en la superficie del cuello uterino o del canal endocervical, los cuales cuelgan de un pedúnculo y salen a través de la abertura cervical.
Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La causa de los pólipos cervicales aún no se ha comprendido completamente. Pueden estar asociados con una inflamación crónica , una respuesta anormal a los niveles elevados de estrógeno o una obstrucción de los vasos sanguÃneos cervicales.
Los pólipos cervicales son relativamente comunes, en especial en las mujeres mayores de 20 años de edad que han tenido hijos y son poco comunes en las mujeres que no han empezado a menstruar. En la mayorÃa de los casos, solamente se presenta un pólipo, aunque en ocasiones se pueden encontrar 2 o 3.
