Adenomiosis

Definición:

Es un engrosamiento uterino que se produce cuando el tejido endometrial, que normalmente recubre el útero, se pasa a las paredes musculares externas del mismo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La causa se desconoce. Algunas veces, la adenomiosis provoca una masa o tumor dentro del útero, denominada adenomioma.

La enfermedad se presenta en mujeres mayores de 30 años que han tenido hijos y rara vez ocurre en mujeres que no han llevado un embarazo a término.

El 60% de las mujeres resulta afectada por alguna forma de adenomiosis, pero en la mayoría de los casos no causa síntomas.
