Prevención:

La mayoría de los adolescentes se sienten muy tristes algunas veces. Tener apoyo y habilidades de adaptación puede ayudar a evitar que dichos períodos de tristeza conduzcan síntomas depresivos más graves. La comunicación abierta con el adolescente puede ayudar a identificar la depresión oportunamente.

Asegúrese de que el adolescente reciba ayuda profesional para hacerle frente a los períodos de estado de ánimo bajo. La identificación temprana y el tratamiento oportuno de la depresión pueden prevenir o demorar los episodios.

En hogares con adolescentes:

No guarde alcohol en la casa o hágalo bajo llave.
Guarde bajo llave las armas de fuego y almacene las municiones por separado.
Guarde bajo llave todos los medicamentos recetados.
