Las personas que han padecido de manera repetitiva depresión estacional deben hablar con un profesional en salud mental respecto a los métodos de prevención. Comenzar el tratamiento durante el otoño o a comienzos del invierno, antes de que se inicien los síntomas del TAE, puede servir.
