Pica - Información general

Definición:

Es un patrón de ingestión de materiales no comestibles, como tierra o papel.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La pica se observa más en niños pequeños que en adultos. Entre 10 y 32% de los niños de uno a seis años tienen estos comportamientos.

La pica se puede presentar durante el embarazo. En algunos casos, la falta de algunos nutrientes, como la anemia ferropénica y la deficiencia de zinc, pueden desencadenar este deseo vehemente inusual. Esta afección también puede presentarse en adultos que ansían sentir una cierta textura en la boca.
