Trastorno ciclotímico - Treatment

Ciclotimia

Tratamiento:

Se pueden utilizar medicamentos estabilizadores del estado de ánimo, antidepresivos, psicoterapia o alguna combinación de estas tres terapias para tratar el trastorno ciclotímico.

Algunos de los estabilizadores del estado anímico utilizados con más frecuencia son:

  • Litio. El litio se ha usado durante años en pacientes con trastorno bipolar y puede ayudar a pacientes con trastorno ciclotímico.
  • Fármacos anticonvulsivos. El ácido valproico (Depakote), la carbamazepina (Tegretol), la oxcarbazepina (Trileptal) y la lamotrigina (Lamictal) son los anticonvulsivos estabilizadores del estado de ánimo más reconocidos.

Es posible que las personas con ciclotimia no respondan a los medicamentos tan contundentemente como los pacientes con trastorno bipolar.

Grupos de apoyo:

Como sucede con otras enfermedades, usted puede aliviar el estrés de vivir con ciclotimia uniéndose a un grupo de apoyo, cuyos miembros comparten experiencias y problemas en común.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Menos de la mitad de las personas con trastorno ciclotímico finalmente desarrollarán trastorno bipolar. En otras personas, la ciclotimia continuará como una afección crónica o desaparecerá con el tiempo.

Complicaciones:

La afección puede progresar a trastorno bipolar.
