Conducto arterial persistente

Definición:

Es una afección médica que se presenta cuando el conducto arterial, un vaso sanguíneo que permite que la sangre se desvíe y eluda los pulmones del bebé antes de nacer, no logra cerrarse después del nacimiento. El término "persistente" significa abierto.

El conducto arterial persistente ocurre en aproximadamente 1 de cada 2.000 bebés y los factores de mayor riesgo son los bebés prematuros y aquellos que presenten el síndrome de dificultad respiratoria .
